Neuroradiologist, dentist, fellows join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Ramin E. Hamidi, D.O.

Dr. Ramin E. Hamidi, a neuroradiology/general radiologist at Southern Indiana Radiology Associates, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology.

After receiving his B.S. in biochemistry in 1993 and his M.S. in neuropharmacology in 1996 from the University of British Columbia, Hamidi earned his D.O. in 2000 at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He had a traditional rotating internship at Henry Ford/BiCounty Hospital/Michigan State University in 2001, a family practice residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, a diagnostic radiology residency at Oakwood/Southshore Hospital/MSU in Dearborn/Trenton, and a neuroradiology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, in 2008.

Hamidi served as a neuroradiology/general radiologist at TC Hobbs and Associates from 2008-09, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital from 2009-15, at Radiology of Indiana from 2015-17, and at Southern Indiana Radiology Associated from 2017-18. He concurrently received his M.B.A. from the Kelley School of Business, IUPUI, in 2017.

He is the author of a children’s book, “Chronicles of Tah: Trapped in a Spell,” published in 2016. He is currently interested in doing research at UMMC.

Amanda L. Morellato, D.D.S.

Dr. Amanda L. Morellato, a general dentist originally from Victoria, British Columbia Canada, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences in the School of Dentistry.

After receiving her B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia, Canada, in 2005, Morellato spent much of her time overseas and earned her D.D.S. at the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2009, graduating with the highest academic achievements of her class.

She has close to a decade of experience as a general dentist in private practice, with dental licenses in both Australia and Canada. She has completed a wide range of continuing education training with courses in minor oral surgery and dental implant surgery and restoration.

An active member of the American Dental Education Association and her community, Morellato has promoted oral health among kindergarten and grade school students. She enjoys educating her patients of all ages, has a particular interest in wisdom tooth removal, and has recently found a new passion for teaching.

John Morellato, M.B.B.S.

Dr. John Morellato, recently an orthopaedic trauma fellow at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery.

After receiving his B.Sc. (pharmacy) from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, in 2005, Morellato undertook his medical training in Sydney, Australia, earning his M.B.B.S. with honors at the University of Sydney Medical School in 2010. He was a junior medical officer at St. George Hospital, Sydney, from 2011-12, then completed an orthopaedic surgery residency from 2012-17 at the University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where he was chief orthopaedic surgery resident from 2016-17. He was the recipient of the 2017 University of Ottawa Resident Teaching Award, the 2017 University of Ottawa Anatomy Prize and the Merv Letts Award for Academic Performance in 2016 and 2017. During his residency, he completed an AO Trauma North America Fellowship at UMMC in 2015. He went on to complete his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2017-18.

The author or coauthor of seven articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and one book chapter, Morellato has given 14 presentations at scientific conferences internationally. He is an active member of AO Trauma and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Laura Wright-Sexton, M.D.

Dr. Laura Wright-Sexton, recently a pediatric critical care fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, in 2007, Wright-Sexton earned her M.D. at the American University of Integrated Sciences in 2011. She had a pediatric residency from 2011-14 and was pediatric chief resident from 2014-15 at the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital, Mobile, and was a pediatric critical care fellow at UMMC from 2015-18. She is board-certified in pediatric critical care.

A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and an active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Wright-Sexton is the author or coauthor of two articles in peer-reviewed professional journals. She has given four invited presentations and has authored or coauthored five posters presented at scientific meetings nationally. Her research interests include quality improvement and pediatric chronic critical illness.
